The second neighborhood watch meeting is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Bucyrus Public Library conference room and one of the organizers said excitement is brewing.

Bucyrus resident Darla Lewis, who is one of many helping to organize Neighborhood Watch groups across the city, said that results of the program are already being seen.

"Neighborhood Watches are developing throughout the city such as Kilbourne Drive, South Sandusky Avenue, Fairview Avenue, Whetstone Street, Waterford Glen to name a few. Success stories of how well the Neighborhood Watch program is working in established block watches are being reported already. Our volunteers on Whetstone Street report fewer incidents of criminal activities in their area within the last month," Lewis said.

The Bucyrus Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program which enlists the active participation of citizens, in cooperation with law enforcement, to reduce crime in their communities.

"A Neighborhood Watch consists of a network of neighbors who learn how to protect themselves and their property, as well as how to serve effectively as additional eyes and ears of law enforcement," Lewis said.

Bucyrus police Chief Ken Teets said more eyes in the community will be helpful to his officers.

"It is very helpful to have more people watching out for criminal or suspicious behavior and reporting it to us," Teets said.

Lewis said Bucyrus Neighborhood Watch brochures will be distributed throughout the city soon.

"If you would like to learn more about the program please pick up a brochure. The brochure tells you the benefits of neighborhood watches, how to recognize criminal activity, how to get involved, etc.," Lewis said.

This week's meeting agenda will cover the collection of block watch maps and family data sheets from established block watches. Discussion of neighborhood issues, how to prioritize these issues and how to develop an action plan to solve the issues are also on the agenda.
